As ever, the Club constantly needs to consider its future, and the way in which it operates. In order to evolve we must be prepared to change and not get stuck continuing to do the same things year on year. The Committee has received comments and concerns from the membership, and in response to these comments the Committee are considering changes which would benefit the Club and its members. To this end members will be part of a consultation process with feedback welcomed on any of the various aspects which are up for consideration.
The recent years have seen great changes technologically to photography much of it brought about by the development of digital photography and computer processing. This has impacted on photographers, as to what is available to them, and also to the national photographic scene e.g. within the PAGB, and within our own regional and Club scene, e.g. the KCPA, where now we see more competitions and exhibitions demanding digital entries.
This has affected our own programme, and we have already seen the consequences of this in our Friday evening competitions. Many of our newer members are digital camera users only, and this must be considered in what we do and what we provide.
Members have mentioned that the Club has too many evenings devoted to competition. It has also been said that we need to have a fresher approach to non competition evenings, with the introduction of more interactive or discussion type evenings. Some members have suggested the possibility of increasing the scope and range of our competition classes to encourage and stimulate our members to get out and take a greater variety of images, and to be more creative and adventurous in their photography. Some members say they would enjoy discussion/appreciation evenings. Other suggestions have been that the league table limits the flexibility of our competition programme, and that we should consider other ways of challenging members. However it is clear that some members are motivated by competition
There are many possibilities for change and the Club could provide a really exciting platform for its members, and be a club which everyone wants to belong to.
There will be a consultation process over the following weeks, and we welcome your input on some, or all of the aspects under consideration. [ see aspects for consideration below] We hope you will participate in this process so that the Club can have a balanced and interesting programme. Let us have your comments, ideas, and suggestions, and this can be done in a variety of ways.
Some members may like to have small meetings to discuss their ideas, others may wish to make a personal and private response. Both are possible.
Let us have your comments, ideas, and suggestions, and this can be done by email or letter to our secretary Valerie McManus or you can respond directly using the form below
